Das DK0NA Team hat am vergangenen Wochenende wieder einmal am Juli Contest teilgenommen. Wir waren auf allen Bändern von 2m bis Laser aktiv. Leider haben wir diesmal auf 245 GHz keine QSOs ins Log bekommen, da zu viel Feuchtigkeit in der Luft war.

Ansonsten war das Wetter bei Auf- und Abbau aber gut und nicht zu heiß. Hervorzuheben sind unsere neuen Helfer Bernd, DO6BER, sowie Dieter DD1DLH, die uns bei Auf- und Abbau unterstützt haben. Ein weitere Dank gilt Harald, DH1NAI, Frank DJ5NQ und Jutta DO4NK, die uns auch wieder zuverlässig unterstützt haben.

Wir haben 2 extra Masten (1x 2m 1x70cm Zweitantenne) aufgebaut und mit dem externen Stromaggregat, Akku und Inverter betrieben. Leider gab es diesmal auch Ausfälle: Die dynamische Lüftersteuerung der 70cm Antenne 1 streikte und so sind wohl einige Transistoren abgebrannt. Die Steuerung wurde daraufhin überbrückt und so konnte immerhin noch mit 1/4 der Leistung auf Antenne 1 weitergefunkt werden. Antenne 2 war auf 70cm ja auch noch da.

Weiterhin hatten wir Probleme mit der Rotorsteuerung auf den Mikrowellenbändern 6cm bis 76 GHz, doch auch diese konnten im Laufenden Betrieb behoben werden und wir hatten nur einen kleineren zeitlichen Ausfall. Danke an unseren Technik-Chief Michael, DB6NT, dass wir trotz Problemen wieder einmal kein Band komplett aufgeben mussten.

Eine weitere Neuheit waren die Dachgepäckträgeraufsätze für den Transport der 70 cm Antennen auf meinem Auto. Diese wurden von Dieter DD1DLH entwickelt und mithilfe eines 3D-Druckers produziert. Es erleichtert den Transport erheblich. Alex DH1NAX und Matthias DG2NES haben ein Zusatzmodul zur Antennenfeinkorrektur des 4m Spiegels (23cm-9cm) gebaut und dieses kam nun auch zum ersten Mal zum Einsatz.

Auf 10 GHz ging auch etwas Regenscatter, leider aber kein Vergleich zu den vielen QSOs aus dem Juni-Contest (Mikrowellenwettbewerb). Vor eine große Herausforderung stellte uns diesmal der Ausfall von AirScout, da der Server gehackt wurde. Zeitweise konnten wir uns mit anderen Datenquellen behelfen, aber den Großteil der Zeit mussten wir diesmal ohne AirScout auskommen. Frank DL2ALF war dieses Mal im Urlaub und so mussten wir „oldschool“ zurechtkommen.

Alles in allem war es aber wieder eine tolle Teamleistung und wir freuen uns schon auf weiteren Wettbewerbe im laufenden Contestjahr. Vielen Dank für alle QSOs und die Geduld, wenn man mal nicht gleich gehört wird oder dran kommt! Zeitweise hatten wir sehr starkes 70cm QRM von unseren Nachbarn.

The DK0NA team once again participated in the July Contest last weekend. We were active on all bands ranging from 2 meters up to the laser range. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to log any QSOs on 245 GHz this time due to excessive atmospheric moisture.

Otherwise, the weather was favorable—neither too hot nor unpleasant—during both setup and teardown. Special thanks go to our new helpers, Bernd (DO6BER) and Dieter (DD1DLH), for their assistance with setup and teardown. We also extend our thanks to Harald (DH1NAI), Frank (DJ5NQ), and Jutta (DO4NK) for their continued reliable support.

We erected two additional masts (one for a secondary 2m antenna and one for a secondary 70cm antenna), powering them via an external generator, battery, and inverter. Unfortunately, we did experience some equipment failures: the dynamic fan control system for the first 70cm antenna malfunctioned, likely causing some transistors to burn out. We bypassed the controller, allowing us to continue operating Antenna 1 at one-quarter power; fortunately, we still had the second 70cm antenna available as well.

We also encountered issues with the rotor control system for the microwave bands (ranging from 6cm to 76 GHz). However, we managed to fix these problems while operations were ongoing, resulting in only a brief period of downtime. Thanks to our technical lead, Michael (DB6NT), we were able to avoid abandoning any bands entirely despite these challenges.

Another new feature was the use of custom roof rack mounts on my car to transport the 70cm antennas; these were designed by Dieter (DD1DLH) and produced using a 3D printer, making transport significantly easier. Additionally, Alex (DH1NAX) and Matthias (DG2NES) built an auxiliary module for fine-tuning the 4m dish (used for the 23cm and 9cm bands), which was deployed for the first time during this contest. We managed to make some rain-scatter contacts on 10 GHz, though unfortunately, the volume didn’t compare to the many QSOs achieved during the June microwave contest. The outage of AirScout—caused by a server hack—posed a major challenge for us this time. While we were able to use alternative data sources intermittently, we had to operate without AirScout for the majority of the event. With Frank (DL2ALF) away on vacation, we had to manage things „old-school.“

All in all, however, it was another fantastic team effort, and we look forward to future contests this season. Many thanks for all the QSOs and for your patience when we couldn’t hear you or get to you right away! Sometimes we had VERY strong QRM on 70cm from our neighbours.

DK0NA wins 2024 DARC VHF/UHF/SHF-Contest-Pokal – VHF/UHF/SHF Contest Trophy

On February 17th 2025 some members of DK0NA crew joined the annual GHz-Meeting in Dorsten to receive the trophy of the „DARC UKW-Contest-Pokal 2024“. The meeting is always a nice opportunity to meet and talk to all the big contest ops in Germany and also some guests from all over the IARU R1 Region. The dinners at the Hotel Jägerhof Einhaus are legendary. Our team DK0NA won the VHF/UHF/SHF championship of contests in Germany 2024 and we had to take part in the 7 major contests to reach this goal. So we are very proud and want to thank all the helping hands we had during the past year. Also mni tnx to all the OMs we had QSO with and we are looking forward to the contest year 2025!

IARU Region 1 VHF CW-Contest 2024 Marconi Memorial Contest MMC

Due to the excellent CW work of our new team member Robert, DK2RO we were able to take part in the IARU Region 1 VHF CW-Contest 2024 (Marconi Memorial MMC) on November 2nd/3rd. The condx were not bad and I guess in CW-mode we achieved a new local 2m (144 MHz) CW record at the Mount Schwedenwache, JO50TI.

Many tnx to Robert, DK2RO and Frank, DJ5NQ as first CW ops and Alex DH1NAX and DK5NJ as second ops. But everything would not work without the help of Harald DH1NAI and Matthias DG2NES who helped with technical support and setting up the 2nd antenna system.

November is not the best weather in our area so this time we had to assemble our antenna systems during foggy rain. Fortunately at the end of the contest the weather was cold but dry and sunny. Our new 3rd electricity generator (also a diesel) ran well and supplied the 2nd antenna system. Although we had little problems with the network software and a rotor cable died (and was replaced!! :-)), we had no bigger issues and can now claim the following result:

IARU R1 VHF Contest September 2024

The DK0NA team took part in the IARU R1 VHF Contest in the first weekend of September 2024. The weather was ok and the conditions quite normal. Many thanks to all the helpers and friends who made this contest possible, maintaining the station and technical equipment, setting up the antennas, BBQ, and supporting our team with good coffee and breakfast and getting the QSOs into the log. Of course, we also say thanks to all the stations we had QSOs with!
