VHF/UHF/SHF Contest May 2025

In the time before we could attend the contest on the first weekend in May we had to do several jobs in and around our clubstation. We needed many appointments to maintain our equipment e. g. setting a new additional peg for guying the tower, repairing antennas and preamplifiers and also our energy generator made problems with a hole in the tank. Setting down and up the tower is always an challenge which we had to do many times. Without the help of our friends and members it wouldn’t have been possible to fix this. Tnx to everybody who was involved, especially DH1NAI, DB6NT, DG2NES and DH3NAG!

During the contest itself we had to deal with several problems, too. Many helpers came to our hill to set up the extra towers for 144 and 432 MHz but due to very strong winds, rain and thunderstorm we decided to take down the antennas and try it again with less height of the towers and less antennas. We wanted to avoid any harm of persons or damage of the equipment. But these „building up again“ actions needed a lot of time and so we were a little bit late and some of us were a little disappointed. In addition to this our monitor of the 432 MHz main antenna system showed „bad SWR“. So we had to change our plans and only used the small tower with smaller amplifier. Nevertheless we carried on and could achieve a claimed score result which is ok. Our „better safe than sorry“ strategy worked well: Nothing was destroyed and especially nobody was injured.

On Sunday the weather was cold but the rain stopped and sometimes the sun showed up. Therefore we could also make some connections on the bands 122, 134, 241 GHz and light (300 GHz). On 122, 134 and laser we worked to Schöneck JO60DJ but on the 241 GHz band there was too much humidity and so we could only work to JO50TJ. Our „highlight “ during contest was the QSO to Rudi OE5VRL (JO50TI to JN78DK) on the 24 GHz band via rain scatter!

VHF/UHF/SHF Contest March 2025

The DK0NA team took part in the IARU VHF/UHF/SHF Contest in March 2025. The weather was very cold but tnx to Udo DH3NAG and Harald DH1NAI we managed to set up our extern rig for the 2m-band. Michael DB6NT and Matthias DK5NJ built a new antenna system for 144 MHz: 2x14ele yagi according to DG7YBN design. You can see the pictures of our legendary antenna transport by car. Some might say it’s brave 😉 The new antennas worked very well and we are highly satisfied, tnx and 73s to http://dg7ybn.de/.

During the contest we had to fight with several challenges: gas filter problems of the big energy generator (changed with running engine :-), local QRM on 432 MHz by other stations around us, LAN network problems but at the end every problem was solved. Despite the bad wx conditions we were able to make QSOs on all the bands from 144 MHz up to 122, 134, 245 GHz and laser on Sunday. So we were active on 14 amateur radio bands! Additional operators are always wanted and therefore we were lucky to get our friend Frank DL1WA for the Saturday shift. It was a lot of fun and we are looking forward to the results! Thanks to all our QSO partners! Find the results at DARC contest hub.

DK0NA wins 2024 DARC VHF/UHF/SHF-Contest-Pokal – VHF/UHF/SHF Contest Trophy

On February 17th 2025 some members of DK0NA crew joined the annual GHz-Meeting in Dorsten to receive the trophy of the „DARC UKW-Contest-Pokal 2024“. The meeting is always a nice opportunity to meet and talk to all the big contest ops in Germany and also some guests from all over the IARU R1 Region. The dinners at the Hotel Jägerhof Einhaus are legendary. Our team DK0NA won the VHF/UHF/SHF championship of contests in Germany 2024 and we had to take part in the 7 major contests to reach this goal. So we are very proud and want to thank all the helping hands we had during the past year. Also mni tnx to all the OMs we had QSO with and we are looking forward to the contest year 2025!

IARU Region 1 VHF CW-Contest 2024 Marconi Memorial Contest MMC

Due to the excellent CW work of our new team member Robert, DK2RO we were able to take part in the IARU Region 1 VHF CW-Contest 2024 (Marconi Memorial MMC) on November 2nd/3rd. The condx were not bad and I guess in CW-mode we achieved a new local 2m (144 MHz) CW record at the Mount Schwedenwache, JO50TI.

Many tnx to Robert, DK2RO and Frank, DJ5NQ as first CW ops and Alex DH1NAX and DK5NJ as second ops. But everything would not work without the help of Harald DH1NAI and Matthias DG2NES who helped with technical support and setting up the 2nd antenna system.

November is not the best weather in our area so this time we had to assemble our antenna systems during foggy rain. Fortunately at the end of the contest the weather was cold but dry and sunny. Our new 3rd electricity generator (also a diesel) ran well and supplied the 2nd antenna system. Although we had little problems with the network software and a rotor cable died (and was replaced!! :-)), we had no bigger issues and can now claim the following result:

Claimed score:

Mni tnx fer all the QSOs and CUAGN nxt test! 73, the DK0NA crew.

IARU R1 UHF SHF Contest October 2024

The DK0NA team attended the IARU R1 UHF SHF Contest in October 2024. The weather forecast for the weekend wasn’t that good but the set up of the antennas was easy and fast due to the fact that we had a lot of helping hands. Our technical equipment caused no problems and everything worked fine. The condx were not better than normal but we could achieve a new local QSO record on the 70cm band at our station site. The claimed scores (see photo, 122, 134, 241 GHz and Laser is missing on the picture) are quite ok.

We are also happy to welcome a new guest operator, DK2RO, Robert. Tnx to everybody we had QSO with and all the helpers around our team!
